Construction


Hull deck and superstructure in hand laid glass with gelcoat finish now painted using a white gloss yacht enamel. The under water profile is of a long fin keel with keel hung rudder with tiller steering.
The keel is of cast Iron and is encapsulated.

Machinery

Auxiliary power is provided by a Solë twin cylinder naturally aspirated engine rated at 14hp, it is fresh water cooled via a heat exchanger. The engine was reconditioned in 2003 and is electric start and fitted with Tachometer, charging light, oil pressure light and temperature alarms. Under power this engine gives a maximum speed of approx 6 knts.

The craft is fitted with a 12 volt electrical system comprising of 2 x 120 amp hr batteries charged from the engine alternator.

  • Mast Spars & Rigging

    Silver anodized aluminium mast and boom with single spreaders and stainless steel standing rigging. The rigging was replaced in 2000 and has seen little seagoing use since that time.
    At this time a roller reefing system was fitted for the head sail. The craft is fitted with 2 x Sheet winches and 1 x Haliard/Reefing winch

    Accommodation

    Five berths in two cabins including saloon comprising
    Forward double cabin, two single settee berths in the saloon and a quarter berth starboard side aft.
    The saloon offers an off center drop leaf table, with stowage behind and under the settee berths. The galley is located Portside aft and is equipped with a two burner gas cooker with oven and grill, and stainless steel sink with electric pumped cold water.
    The heads compartment located between the forward cabin and saloon is fitted with a sea toilet.
    Maximum headroom is listed as 6’00”
    Interior joinery we believe to be mahogany or mahogany veneer, with upholstery in a deep red material.

    Comments

    Although an older craft of classic design and lines the Contest 29 has a faithful following. Renown for their sea kindly disposition this craft is very suitable for the novice sailer or passage maker who is more interest in safe sailing rather than speed.
